Solaris 2020 has arrived

Small Size + Big Sound

Re-engineering our critically acclaimed Solaris was no small feat. Maintaining its signature sound, but changing its exterior shape was a substantial challenge.

The result of that undertaking is an exciting new earphone that captures that ‘Solaris-Sound’ in a size more people can enjoy.

Sounds Spectacular

Explosive musical realism with deft execution. Now 20% smaller.

Holographic presentation. Intimate detail retrieval. Soaring highs, engaging mids and impactful bass. Music sounds like music with lifelike performances, superior layering and unbelievable imaging. The same critically acclaimed sonic character of Solaris and Solaris SE is shared in the Solaris 2020.

Beyond the size reduction of Solaris 2020, it is also the first Solaris to incorporate our Solid-Body acoustic design. This gives us more control of the interplay of the drivers, which results in a cleaner and more refined sound.

Carefully (Re)Considered Creation for 2020

Mixing from our palate of audio technologies, a sonic masterpiece emerged.

By incorporating our many individual acoustic technologies into Solaris 2020 we were able to create an exceptional earphone. Solaris is a hybrid design, blending the best of the balanced armature performance with the physicality of dynamic drivers. It features 2 custom balanced armature drivers paired with our T.A.E.C for extended highs, without sibilance or fatigue. A larger single rear-ported balanced armature driver provides rich delivery of mid frequencies. A specially tuned version of our 10mm A.D.L.C. dynamic driver, optimized with our Polarity Tuned Chamber, anchors the sonic performance with deeply engaging mid-frequency tonality and visceral bass response.

3.5mm super smoky litz cable

Super Smoky Litz

An exceptional earphone deserves an exceptional cable

Our new Super Smoky Litz cable is made from four large conductors of Silver-plated Copper Litz wire. Each conductor is individually comprised of a selected set of particular diameter strands. The Super Smoky Litz cable is the perfect balance of physical gauge and performance.

Tuned Acoustic Expansion Chamber

T.A.E.C.

Tuned Acoustic Expansion Chamber

Our tuned acoustic expansion chamber technology allows us to deliver extended high frequencies without sibilance or fatigue. We optimize our driver performance by adjusting the volume of space available in front of the driver. This is superior to the typical “Tube+Dampener” system because it provides a direct passage from the driver to your ear, which results in unsurpassed clarity and extension.

Polarity Tuned Chamber

Polarity Tuned Chamber

3D printed acoustic tuning for dynamic drivers

Our Polarity Tuned Chamber allows us to optimize the sonic performance of our dynamic drivers. Deploying particular volume cavities, both in front of and behind our dynamic driver, we can pull bigger sounds from smaller drivers. This also gives us the ability, in the case of hybrid designs, to specifically target the driver performance.

3D Printed Interior

Carefully Designed for Optimum Sonic Performance

Close attention to detail is critical to delivering you the superior musical experience from our earphones. Solaris features an acoustically optimized interior model that allows each driver to deliver the very best sound quality. When heard together, the drivers offer a seamless musical experience as a result of this process.

Gather Round The Audio Campfire And Hear The Best Wired Earphones This Year

This new and updated version of Campfire Audio’s Solaris is without doubt the best pair of high-end earphones I think I’ve ever reviewed. Of course, they probably should be for the price. However, what Campfire Audio has done is to take the brilliantly detailed qualities of three balanced armature drivers and successfully blended them with a large dynamic driver and produced an utterly sublime sound that covers a breathtakingly wide frequency range. The sound is fulsome and detailed without ever feeling harsh or tiring. The advanced acoustic treatment chamber produces a sound that could have been created in heaven. As well as their gorgeously smooth and detailed sound, the Solaris feel incredibly well made, almost as if they were crafted purely for my personal listening pleasure.

Campfire Audio Solaris Review – The Unstoppable Force

Those who enjoyed the Solaris’ low-end will have a mostly familiar experience here, trading just a little energy and separation for a more natural timbre. The midrange makes most appreciable changes to me, also seeing greater linearity with a more balanced upper-midrange, in particular. The overall signature remains somewhat W-shaped, with a powerful bass, prominent vocals and crisp treble with dips between for separation. The tone also remains clean, however, there’s a little bit more body to be derived from the low-end which means that, though there’s a loss of density and smoothness in the upper-midrange, the presentation doesn’t become thin or bright.

CAMPFIRE AUDIO SOLARIS 2020 REVIEW

In 2018 Campfire Audio, too much fanfare, released their highly regarded Solaris earphones. It was a significant departure from the companies industrial looking designs and added yet another option for IEM users looking for an endgame audio experience. They were terrific earphones and the ones that I came to use as my daily drivers for the past to years and the standard by which I measured other earphones.

There was very little I disliked about the original Solaris earphones. It was interesting to see an updated version for 2020, and while these are not a revolutionary change on the original, they are better in every way. So if you want to know more about the Campfire Audio Solaris 2020, feel free to read the rest of this review.

Campfire Audio Solaris 2020 Edition Review

The signature as a whole has an effortless aspect to it that is really astounding, adding to the beauty of the natural character of sound signature. The decays seem to be a little laid back helping with the realism of experience. Coupled with the strong refined mids, immersive staging, impacting bass and precise transition aspects makes the Solaris one of the most pleasurable well tuned earphones that the team at earphonia.com have had the chance to experience.

Just a few early observations about the new Solaris 2020. I originally purchased my first pair of the Solaris in November 2019, this may have been the first ‘refresh’. I learned from these that allowing at least 20 hours of ‘burn-in time’ makes a great improvement in the sound signature. Now on to the Solaris 2020 observations. I have larger ears so I never had much of a fit issue with the original Solaris. However, with the decreased size of the new Solaris 2020 the fit and comfort are the best I have ever experienced from any IEM. The fit and isolation are just phenomenal! Next, there is a noticeable change for the better in the sound signature. I find that there is a little more bass/low end and a fuller mid-range. It’s not a big change but you can definitely tell a change for the better in the mid-range. The treble sounds the same to me with that beautifully open, airy, and sparkling signature. Lastly, the new Solaris 2020 sound may be a little more centered in you head which gives just a little less width to the soundstage but this could change in time. I still love the new Solaris and will continue to grow on me with it’s slightly more mature sound. I listen to primarily 24 bit FLAC files and some 1 bit DSD through an iBasso DX220. As always Campfire Audio, nicely done!

Just got the Solaris couple of days ago. This is my first campfire audio product and I am shocked. Great soundstage, nice detailed full mid. What a great experience!!! Cannot really believe that the sound comes from an IEM. I think the Solaris greatly combines details and enjoyable sound. You feel the high resolution but are not troubled by the analytical feeling. The full mid-range gives a lot of emotions when listening to people singing. I am using with an Astell Kern SA700, the player itself does bring the mid forward. But the mid-range for the solaris is just killing. Detailed yet warm sound. I am truly in love. Now I am thinking getting a balanced Litz cable for Solaris. Just kind of worried that with balanced, the mid might be pushed away.

Very nice, no doubt, however do I think they are 50% better than Andromeda, no way. I sent back the Solaris today for a refund, I’ve had and loved the Andromeda since April. For me the Solaris may have better specs on paper but I don’t hear the difference over a broad range of music or at higher and lower volume. I also expected to have the music out in front of me, similar to a live performance or a pair of quality floor speakers. Too much of the sound is in my ear and not out in front of me. Are they bad, of course not, there’s a lot to like about the sound and fit and quality of the Solaris, but I’ll keep my Andromeda, thank you very much.

This is my first campfire audio product and my first higher end IEM. I can’t really measure it against anything else I have ever listened through because honestly the quality of the products I used before were poor. However now my ears have heard things they have never heard before. I jumped in with full gusto on the Solaris after watching and reading several reviews. I am glad I did. I have used these on several DACs and straight from my media players as well with their built in DACs. I will say some setups sound much better than others. I also tested this with the various music streaming services, referencing the same music, and again, your mileage may vary. However, in each case I would say the sound is fantastic, some better out of body experiences than others.

The best IEM I’ve ever heard. They do everything right and are comfortable enough to use all day. My only regret is I didn’t buy them sooner.

  6. Yves

Musical rather than analytical, natural yet detailed with some texture and not too smooth. The Solaris 2020 are absolutely marvellous — for all genres. The best of Campfire Audio so far.

  7. innerstat (verified owner)

Coming from the Dorado 2020 my expectations for the Solaris were muted since the Dorado 2020s are so good but very quickly I learned how good it is to be wrong sometimes. The Solaris 2020 turned my head into a music room and I’ve now spent more time happily listening to music via headphones than I ever have in my life. I’ve also been able to enjoy listening at lower volumes and for hours at a time since the Solaris 2020 are just the right size and shape to stay put and remain comfortable. I have small ears and canals and it takes the smallest included tips for the best fit. These are easily the best headphones I’ve ever owned. I’ve driven them primarily with a Chord Mojo(great synergy), but I’ve also used an AQ Cobalt Dragonfly(good sound but none of that Mojo goodness)and a Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Digital(avoid this pairing, the S2 falls short here). If Campfire Audio can top the Solaris 2020 in any significant way in the future the results would be astonishing. The only thing the Solaris 2020 can’t do well is let you smell the cigarette smoke of the players.

  8. Will Rambosek (verified owner)

Absolutely astounding IEMs. A word to the wise: give these a proper burn in and use spiral dot tips. Make sure to get a proper seal with whatever tips you do use. You may be surprised at how relatively reference the bass tines are at first for an IEM driven by a dynamic driver, but when you get used to that, the tuning is absolutely surreal.

Officially surpasses Campfire Andromeda as “best headphones in the world” for me. Cheers!
