The Daring and Amazing Adventures of Captain Francis Aristarchus

Now floating in total darkness, Captain Francis Aristarchus wished for light, and just like that, a soft morning glow revealed that he was tightly confined by a strange membrane.

He struggled with his arms and legs to escape, only to see that he was now floating in the center of a chamber the size of a stadium.  He wondered why he remained weightless; instantly, he stood on firm ground.  Hoping he had oxygen remaining to explore whatever this was, his spacesuit melted away and a suit of shimmering metal as soft and light as cotton replaced it.

When Aristarchus realized a sentience must be controlling this environment, his mind suddenly erupted in a cacophony of voices and images as his own memories reverberated against those of a thousand other species.  He gripped his temples and was alone again.  Upset at the unexpected psychic intrusion but curious about its origin, his ears were then fit snuggly with small earphone-like devices.  He now harmoniously perceived the expansive consciousness of the Cosmic Nudibranch intermingling with his own.

A spark of energy and he disappeared in ripples, reappearing alongside his former vessel with its airlock still open.  His head free of a helmet; looking down at Earth and up at this mysterious colossal entity, he wanted nothing more than to explore the universe.  And so began a long and fruitful friendship.

Decades later, the remarkable device that bonded Captain Aristarchus and the Cosmic Nudibranch was found to pair wirelessly with an exceptional range of human audio devices.

Optimize Your Experience

We’ve included three sizes of foam tips and three sizes of silicone tips.  Experiment with fit and sonic performance to find the right mix for you.  Earphone tips have a dramatic impact on the sound of your earphone.  Also, remember that most ears are not perfectly matched, so you may find a different-sized tip on your left and right earphones that may be the most comfortable and provide you with the optimal acoustic seal for your Orbit.

Additionally, there is a USB-C to USB-C cable for charging when wireless options are unavailable.

We’ve also included a new take on our signature Campfire Audio lapel pin.  From the beginning, we’ve included a lapel pin with each earphone we’ve sold.  Wear the unique Orbit pin proudly as those who know will know.

True Wireless Journey

An Adventure in Innovation

We’ve been working on TWS products for many years.  Orbit in particular is a bit over two years in the making.  Our focus when approaching a Campfire Audio wireless solution was to make sure that it was truly a Campfire Audio product.  With Orbit we feel that we’ve achieved just that.  It is an earphone that sounds fully Campfire Audio.  The acoustic design and ‘North of Neutral’ signature are firmly in place.  Orbit is the first TWS all of us at the shop started to use regularly.  While it may have taken a while to get here, you’re not going to regret picking one up.  The sound, the charm, the form; Nicely Done.

Campfire Audio Orbit Review: Stellar Performance

“With relatively few features and a premium price point, the Campfire Orbit really bet on their sonic prowess. Rightly so, because these earphones sound exceptionally good…

If you’re after something flat and clinical, these aren’t the earbuds for you – they’re vibrant and colorful, and they tick the box for us.

The staging is brilliant too, probably the best we’ve heard from wireless earbuds so far. Impressive stuff.”

Campfire Audio Orbit Review: Sound Surpassing Your Dreams

“I had to keep reminding myself that this was a wireless earphone. We know Campfire Audio can create incredible wired earphones, having released some of the best sounding IEMs in history. The Orbit not only manages to carry on this tradition without the need for cables. There is now a Campfire Audio product that delivers their well known bombastic and engaging audio in a more affordable and convenient to use package… The sound is massive. It slams when needed with bass that drops low and punches high. Details come across with crispness and clarity, yet they are still very much a part of the overall listening experience. There has always been an organic quality to Campfire Audio earphones, and the Orbit is certainly this.”

These are actually pretty great. I love the fit of these alot. The sound is really big & very spacious feeling AND the bass slams, its very satisfying and makes for a really really fun earbud. Definitely would recommend giving these a try

  2. Ryan Snyder (verified owner)

Wow – 2 Ryan reviews! Absolutely loving my Orbits! They are very compact with a short nozzle and fit my ears really well. On top of that they sound fantastic and I completely agree with other Ryan on the spacious feeling and bass, while not being all bass all the time. Great first wireless entry from Campfire, so glad I purchased them and to top if off their customer service has been fantastic!!!!! Highly recommended – buy them!

  3. Patric Dhawaan (verified owner)

Probably the best wireless IEMs I’ve had thus far. Awesome low end with a rolled off treble. They sound warm, and a perfect compliment to my Polaris IIs. Wish they came with larger ear tips to ensure a better seal for larger ears. That’s my only gripe.

  4. Bernie Clanton

After 2 workouts, these have the best fit I’ve found in TW. I had to use some silicone tips from my Honeydew to get a good seal. Speaking of the Honeydew, the Orbits have a similar sound signature. This is exactly what I was hoping for. I’m also glad that Campfire decided to leave out the ambient and nose cancellation garbage on these. The only thing I would like is a voice/sound letting me know connection or disconnection has occurred.

  5. Bernie

They sound close to a wireless Honeydew. They fit perfectly in my ears and never feel like I need to adjust them. That’s never happened with any other wireless buds I’ve tried. The only problem I’ve had is the BT connection. Random drop outs when I wear my hood up.

  6. Kenny Forman

I very rarely take the time to write “reviews “. Who am I to tell someone else what to buy. I will however take the time to write about these new little gems, as they deserve the praise.
Already owning CA Solars /Andromeda/Vega & Mammoth‘s. , I went into the Orbits with low expectations, expecting the Orbits to sound like the Apple AirPod pros with a better fit. Wow was I wrong. The Orbits set a new bar for TWS IEM’s. The sound signature is pure CA. With fantastic separation @ this price point. & a thunder bass that still somehow remains to stay in its own lane & not bleed over into the mids & highs. Easy to pair with Apple & Android products. I gave the Orbits a ride with both my IPhone 14 pro & my A&K SP2000t. , before the Orbits , I would not dare to sync a pair of TWS IEM’s with my A&K DAC, however the CA Orbits preformed great with the DAC. Some consumers have commented how the Orbits don’t have Noise Cancellation built in. Well if you already own a pair of CA IEM’s you know that the fit is more important than the noise cancellation & CA Orbits fit like a glove in your ears ( Use the foam not the silicone for best possible fit. The CA App is easy to use & sets up potential for firmware upgrades down the road – are they up there in performance with Solars & Andromeda. Of course not. Those are $1,000–$1,500 IEM’s. & rightfully so. Are they up there with the best of the best TWS IEM’s – Yes. They are on top of that mountain with their first try. Nice job CA. Keep doing what you do please. … producing the best sounding IEM’s on the planet.

  7. Carlos (verified owner)

Short version – the sound on these is among the best of true wireless buds in this price range. Whether it is definitively better than some of its nearest competitors, however, is more debatable and likely more a matter of listening tastes. Why this matters a lot is because if these sound as gods as its nearest competitor, the problem is the nearest competitor has more convenience features, less bugs and better overall usability. So the question then becomes does the sound presentation here match your tastes enough to accept the loss of those features for the same $249?

To go a little deeper, I’ll give some general impressions and comparisons versus some of the biggest competitors in this range, which I also happen to own. Overall, the sound on these out of the box is a very warm, mid-bass heavy tuning. It is V-shaped, with elevated bass, recessed mids and elevated treble – though the treble rolls off at the upper frequencies, so the V is a bit lopsided in that regard. Comparatively, the AirPods Pro 2 (AP2) have a more neutral tuning, that is more U-shaped, with less elevation of the low end. The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 (TW3) have a very similar tuning, though with more elevation in the sub-bass. Whether you like the tuning of the Orbit is purely a matter of taste. However, I found the sub-bass to be a bit lacking compared to the AP2 and TW3, not horribly less but noticeable. I also found the Orbit to be noticeably darker and more veiled right out of the box than the others, with the mids way too far back and not enough shining through in the highs. It is easy to modify the EQ in the app, however, and once I modified to my liking, these shine very well. So if you don’t like the tuning, the EQ option works very well.

Where the Orbit really shines is in its staging and positioning. Overall, it is a large and spacious stage for a bud in this range – noticeably so. It projects the sound out in front of you, as if you were watching a performance from the front row. The width is quite good, extending slightly outside the ear, and most impressively, the image also has very good depth for this price range, as well as height. The amount of space here is also used very well, as pieces of the mix are spread out enough to uniquely identify each. The overall resolution is not noticeably better than the competition, but it is also no worse. Comparatively, I would say the stage and positioning of the orbit is definitively better than the AP2. The AP2 has a similar approach to the stage as the Orbit, but the AP2 lacks the depth and height of the Orbit and end up sounding much smaller in comparison. The TW3 have a very different approach to the stage, as they are much more intimate. Instead of projecting the sound as if you are watching a performance from the first row, the TW3 put you ON the stage. It’s a more intimate bud. That said, the height and depth on the TW3 are equally good as the Orbit, it just puts you closer to the mix with more happening right in your face and around you, so it is a matter of taste.

Comfort wise, these are also very good for me personally, and while fit mileage may vary per individual, I do think CA has done well in including lots of tip options, making it pretty likely that something will work for you – especially with the inclusion of the foam tips. These aren’t meant to go as deep in the ear as some others, going deeper than the AP2 but not as deep as the TW3. I’ve worn these for several hours straight with no issues with pain or ear fatigue.

In terms of other quality of life features, the Orbit support the latest Bluetooth 5.2 tech and mainstream codecs, including aptX adaptive. They also have a whopping 8.5-hour battery life (which is great but cheating; I’ll come back to it). Call performance is also OK from my brief tests. Unfortunately, the positives end there. The Orbit do not include any active noise cancelation or any type of transparency mode. They also do not include Bluetooth multipoint to allow quick switching between devices. They also lack certain conveniences like the ability to automatically stop the music when you take out one bud. This sound like a nitpick, but let me give an example of how this matters. If you are going to use these are your everyday buds – around the house, office, commute, whatever, then because these don’t have any type of transparency mode, you’re likely going to be taking them out a lot, and not only is pausing your music manually to stop it an extra step, but because the buds don’t recognize when they aren’t in your ear (unless they’re in the case), then it is likely you’re going to accidentally hit the very sensitive touch controls of the one that is NOT in your ear a LOT. I also mentioned that the 8.5-hour battery life is cheating a bit, and that’s because it doesn’t have to burn battery that these extra features would need. Comparatively, the AP2 have a 6-hour battery life WITH ANC/transparency on. Turning it off would put it closer to the Orbit’s mark. The app is also functional – but bare bones functional. You can check the battery, update the firmware and change the EQ, and that’s it. You cannot customize the touch controls, only turn them on or off. If you are used to any of the other buds in this price range from Sony, Bose, Sennheiser, Apple – they pretty much all have all of the features I mentioned above. The fact that the Orbit is the same price as all of these seems off. Especially, as I mentioned earlier, while the sound is among the best, I wouldn’t say it is better than all of them, so that is a problem.

That said, having spent time with both the Orbit and some of their higher-end gear like the Trifecta, Orbit definitely has that Campfire house sound feel, and the artistry and lore they put into their products really does give you an opportunity to connect with your gear and Campfire – if that’s your thing. So when it’s all said and done, you may be someone like me that just loves sound and is willing to pay a comparative “premium” for that Campfire house sound in a true wireless bud or support the Campfire brand – and for that, these fit the bill.

  8. Raunak (verified owner)

Overall very good just have a problem with the feel… kinda plasticky and the app (very buggy). Rest is very good… sound is very crisp and clear and has a good noise isolation. Also fits fits perfectly in the ear with no worry of it ever falling off…

  9. Ricardo (verified owner)

All around a pretty fun pair of bluetooth IEM’s. My only gripe is a hissing noise. But I do say that these are worth the money if you’re looking for a quality listening experience

  10. alessi808 (verified owner)

My verdict: Campfire Audio Orbit is late to the True Wireless IEM party; no matter, its unique sound quality first approach continues with their worldwide fans cult status.

    Plus:
Addictively fun and immersive sound signature
    Excellent bass punch and rumble
    Front row seat live performance
Impressive soundstage and imaging for a pair of True Wireless buds
    Great passive isolation
    Lightweight with comfort fit
Fantastic battery life for continuous enjoyment

    Minus:
Run-in is required for a period of time to bring out their maximum potential
Buds tend to slip out of fingers when handling, so caution is needed
Minor bug in app for now, need to be rectified in future update

  11. Christopher Fisher (verified owner)

So, I ordered my first pair from Amazon (more on why I have a second pair arriving today, later). Immediately, I was struck by how big and rich they sounded. The presentation is full – especially the extended lows. Clearly, these were designed to induce fun while listening. They sounded veiled, especially in the mids, though. Thank you, Campfire, for including an EQ in the app. After finding a suitable EQ setting, I became enamored by the sound I was getting. It seems CA has managed to get extra sound for a saturation level I have never experienced. I liken the sound of the orbit to Nesquick with extra powder in the mix. Saturated, rich, enveloping and, oh, so satisfying. While the AirPods Pro 2 sound accurate and with better bass definition and slam than their predecessor, they can sound a tad thin through the mids, something I did not entirely notice until I compared them directly to the Orbit. I would love to see the convenience features of the AP2 included in the next rendition of the Orbit. Namely ear detection and transparency mode. I didn’t miss ANC, however these isolate fabulously. But while walking around, sometimes I would like the world to come through. And automatic pausing when removing them from the ear is a feature which provides serious convenience while wearing in the office. Nonetheless, I love the harmonic saturation and richness provided by these buds. Images are huge, and I love to be enveloped by the warm blanket they wrap my ears in.

Now to the down side. My first pair came from Campfire on Amazon, quick and effortless delivery. After a few days the touch controls went whacky, and it didn’t matter which but I was double tapping, it would start my track over and pause. I had to tap once more to start playing. There was no next track configuration on the buds anymore. Then shortly after that began, I heard a sizzle in the left bud occasionally. Shortly after that began, only bass and low midrange would come through on the left side, followed by a sizzle in the bud with increasing frequency. At that point I reached out to Campfire directly. Response was quick and we reached a resolution: I would return the Amazon pair through Amazon and initiate a purchase directly from CA.com. And they would rush me a new pair. Again, service and responsiveness was top notch. I was supposed to have the buds this past Monday (It is now Thursday), but USPS decided to not honor the expedited shipping CA paid for. Nonetheless, as I write this they are preparing to deliver my new Orbits. And I cannot wait to have them back in my life. I have become a Campfire fanboy through this experience. It am now the proud owner of Andromeda 2020, Vega 2020, Saber, Holocene and Orbit. And cannot wait to find out what is in store for 2023!
