The Wonders of Oregon – The Oregon Vortex

In the forests of Southern Oregon exists a peculiar area that exhibits some unusual, mind-bending behaviors. Gravity seems to malfunction as objects lean unnaturally, perceptions are altered as the heights of your friends and family seem to morph and change relative to one another. This is the Oregon Vortex.

Reportedly, horses refused to enter this “forbidden area” as they could sense that something wasn’t quite right. Eventually, what is now known as “The House of Mystery” was built there, as an “an assay office and later used for tool storage, built by the Old Grey Eagle Mining Company in 1904.”¹

Engineer and geologist John Lister spent several decades living in the area and studying its curious behaviors, detailing “his observations in his ‘Notes and Data Relative to the Phenomenon at the Area of the House of Mystery’ in 1944.”² Many have thought that the illusions and peculiarities of the area are caused by locally occurring geomagnetic irregularities, while in 1998, a former magician and illusionist named James Randi used “photography and mathematics to describe the claims of the Oregon Vortex as optical illusions.”²

The Oregon Vortex is one of Oregon’s many natural wonders that contributes to its vibrant and brilliant mystique. Campfire Audio is proud to call Oregon and the PNW home, and to be able to draw inspiration from its fascinating beauty and allure.

What will this vortex encompass next?
