Campfire Audio Mammoth Review

“In a word, they’re fantastic…They offer a ton of detail, thumpy yet clean bass, and treble that sizzles on the top end but stops just shy of sibilance.”

Campfire Audio’s Mammoth In-Ear Monitors Trumpet A Beautiful Sound

“Campfire Audio has done a brilliant job of following up on the Polaris with the Mammoth. The look is familiar and the blue Frozen Tundra color zings. They look great and the cable is excellent. Because it is detachable and used MMCX connectors, that cable can easily be upgraded or replaced should it ever be damaged. I love the classic V-shaped sound and the warm bass, forward midrange and treble that’s smooth, controlled and perfectly crisp. The glow-in-the-dark accents are a bit of fun and could help you locate the Mammoth in a dark room. If you’re looking for a mid-price pair of IEMs that punch well above their weight. Earphones don’t get much better than the Campfire Audio Mammoth.”

Campfire Audio Mammoth IEM Hands-on Review: Analogue Bass and Crisp Highs

“Can Campfire Audio combine its excellent balanced armature and dynamic driver sounds? From our testing of the Mammoth, the answer is a resounding ‘yes’. The Mammoth is another proof that CA is an expert when it comes to seamlessly weaving together the two different sound characteristics, while retaining the strength of both driver technologies. The CA Mammoth is a comfortable to wear and stylish IEM that suits people after a massive and aggressive sound.”

Campfire Audio Mammoth Review : Well rounded

Campfire audio, enough for an introduction to the article. This brand needs no introduction. they have been one of the most dominant IEM brands and their Solaris and Andromeda are regarded as some of the best IEMs one can but in their respective price bracket.

Campfire Audio has been busy lately. They came up with Honeydew and Satsuma very recently and now they have two middle weight IEMs. I have both of these with me but the Mammoth sounds like a more relevant of the two. It is replacing the Polaris and houses similar set of drivers too. While the Polaris had a 9.2mm DD paired with one BA while the Mammoth has a more improved 10mm Bio-cellulose diaphragm paired with two separate BA drivers for mids and highs.

Campfire Audio Mammoth Review by Audio Levels

The Mammoth are a mid priced earphone in Campfires line up and use a hybrid driver design of 2 balanced armatures and a dynamic diaphragm. Build quality is off the charts as usual and they come in a very attractive color scheme with a few tricks up its sleeve.

Campfire Audio Mammoth Review

“…the sound of the Mammoth is a return to the general ‘rock’ vibe of the original Polaris and less of the overtly basshead V-shape of the Polaris 2. What I mean by that is that the Mammoth low-end is strong but sounds a bit more balanced and punchier making it more suitable to a wider range of genres compared to the more voluptuous wall of bass that was the Polaris 2.

The overall tone is smooth, natural to warm with a rounded timbral feel from a relaxed treble performance. This is a coloration built from the base upwards and that is where your ear will gravitate when the low-end starts to get busy.

Having said that, the additional BA over the Polaris 2 does allow CA to deliver a more complete midrange that was lacking over the predecessor. There is some forwardness there that allows both vocal and midrange instrumentation a bit more space and presence to shine.”

Campfire Audio Mammoth

“Campfire Audio Mammoth is one of the best options if you’re looking for bassy IEM with a chill playstyle, that lets me forget about the lack of details. I’m going to be listening to them during evening walks and sitting under the blanket with a cup of hot tea. Everything is completed with a huge set of accessories, and an unordinary designed “All seeing eye” case.

Campfire Audio Mammoth review: Here comes the BOOM

“Overall, these are just some fantastic IEMs. They sound amazing, as if Campfire Audio has been reading my headphone reviews and tuned them, especially for my ears. The Mammoth are easily the best wired IEMs for listening to music that I’ve used to date.

Having the Polaris v1 (great bass extension but way less mature than Mammoth, but Polaris v1 has way too much sparkle and harshness, something I never realized until I received the mammoth), the andromeda S ( flat but yet has its place with certain genres), and Jupiter (very bland comparatively speaking)… in comes mammoth. A hard hitter with smooth roll off between mids and highs. Warmth without the harshness that the Polaris v1 offered up. But still with all of the bass and sub bass extension. You can feel it in your brain on some tracks. Ultimately, I’m very pleased with my purchase. Worth every penny if you like an old school flavor. Where mids and highs while still crisp lack the harshness and super “V” of the Polaris v1. Warm, but boomy. Great for edm, jazz, Lofi, some lossless Stevie Ray. They are entertains across the gamete of gendered in 2021. With great apathetic appeal to boot.

I am totally loving the Mammoth IEMs. After a couple of hours of my ears adjusting to them (or burn in) the sound has been fantastic. I was previously using B&W P7 headphones (wired) and this was a very noticeable upgrade. I was nervous from the review on Major HiFi that the bass would be too strong but I find it to be very nice. I don’t consider myself a bass head, but maybe I am, a little. The clarity is far better than anything I have used before and is a wonderful upgrade to all my favorite music. I would happily recommend this IEM for anyone moving up to a better listening experience. It did take me several tries to get the right tips. I moved to a larger size than I usually use so take your time getting the right fit. The comfort is excellent for long listening sessions. I do notice a bit of a reduced response in the lower ranges of Miranda Lambert’s voice (should be same for all in that range), but it is excellent even with that small dip. I have listened to classical, country, new age/ambient, and blues and been very satisfied with the Mammoth IEM. Thanks Campfire for a great option that my wife was ok with ($$). Favorite song so far: Highway Vagabond by Miranda Lambert. There is so much going on in this song, wow. Runner up: Your Coffee Is a Disaster by Yo-Yo Ma et al. on the album Not Our First Goat Rodeo.

I was introduced into a new world of experiencing music the way the artists want us to when I first put these into my ears. Massive sound with solid bass and clean, pronounced mids and highs. I highly recommend these IEMs!

  4. aimpellize

Great replacement for my lost Polaris IEM’s. I somehow lost my Polaris IEM’s. The Mammoth’s are somewhat a little better with more noticeable bass and excellent soundstage too. If you are like me and like to up the volume when you listen to your music, then these are for you. Great purchase, worth every penny.

While my first review was never published because maybe it was too honest… I’ll attempt again. After having more time with them, and comparing them to my Polaris V1 and Andromeda S across several genres and multiple listening platforms and equipment. I still consider them to be a better sounding IEM than both the andromeda S and a significant improvement over the Polaris V1. The harsh highs on the Polaris V1 were something I never identified until I received my Mammoth. Overall, this is the best IEM in my inventory.

I spent a lot of time researching which new earphones to get and I’m thrilled I landed on these. I previously had a wired pair of Bowers & Wilkins and these are even clearer on the highs and mids without loosing the bass. I also have Bowers & Wilkins P17 wireless, which sound awesome for a true wireless set up but they cannot match the clarity and crispness of these CampFire’s. Also tried Shure’s new Aonic 4 and 5 but returned them because they had such a small bass response, thought they did have excellent mids and highs. All around these CampFire’s have a bigger soundstage and are more immersive.
I didn’t know which CampFire product to get so I emailed them my desires and what I mainly listen to and they recommended these. I listen mainly to electronic-indie, classic rock, new rock and EDM and these sound fantastic for each genre. If you want one set of earphones that excel on all types of music look no further.

My new favorite IEMs. I am using them with an Astell&Kern SR 25 and Kann Alpha DAP. I usually use balanced cables with these DAPs, but they sound incredible with the single ended cable that came with the Mammoth IEMs. I am listening to my playlists and the songs that are heavy bass have more impact now. My previous best IEMs are Sennheiser IE 900s. I love those too and they are more balanced, but these make me connect to the music more and have more impact. I went back and forth to see if I was missing details and I am not. I am shocked with how balanced these are while still emphasizing the bass. Love love love. This is my first experience with Campfire Audio and I am now interested in trying their high end offerings. I mostly listen to hires files or files that I have ripped straight from CD, so your mileage may vary if you stream music. Very impressed and I will be researching my next purchase. Trying to decide between the Ara or Solaris. I love the hybrid sound of the Mammoth so far and I lean dynamic driver for bass.

  8. Evelyn (verified owner)

Mammoth has the most clarity I’ve ever heard in a bassy IEM. I’ve seen people describe these as V-Shaped, they are not – they are W shaped. Where most of the bass comes from is the sub bass and it extends DEEEEP. Bass has so much texture – I’m hearing things from bass on these that I haven’t heard from other headphones or IEMs before. Where these excel though, in my opinion, is Rock and Metal. The sound is just HUGE. It’s gigantic. It’s MAMMOTH. You get the rumble and the gutteral jolt on djenty guitar songs, but you also get clarity. Electric guitars sound great on these. Especially guitars with lots of fuzz type distortion effects. You can really hear what I’m talking about on Jack White’s “Taking Me Back”. Super cool song to listen to on these.

  9. Arthur T

I’m thoroughly impressed with the Mammoth. I checked it out primarily because I’m a basshead and an online article rated this as having the most bass in their 15 Best IEMs for bass 2022 article. I was expecting compromised mids and highs in view of the Mammoth’s bass emphasis tonal balance but I was pleasantly surprised that the mids and highs were not overwhelmed nor grossly curtailed. They sound the best for techno-pop and most electronic music + rock although I’m not into rap. I kid you not these little monsters push out the same amount of bass as my Amp/DAC with it’s bass boost feature enabled! And it does so with aplomb running strait out of my DAP with loudness to spare! They are a true engineering marvel and this won’t be my last Campfire purchase.

  10. robtapp

I never knew how good IEMs could sound, amazing especially considering the size. In the past I have owned in ear buds, cheap ones and supposedly good ones, wired and wireless, and other on-ear headphones throughout the years. However, none have come near the sound quality of my Mammoths. I have used these for a few months, either connected directly to my sound system or via a USB DAC (with a 2.5mm balanced cable) for portable use. I won’t get into any fancy details but I will say that even with the higher price (compared to the usual earbuds) these are great value. Easily the best IEMs I own and they even come close to some of my pricier over ear headphones.
